Summary
While not groundbreaking, this one-season wonder manages to make for some fun supernatural mystery without overcomplicating things or feeling cheesy.
Plot: Nick Monahan (Frank Grillo, Prison Break) and his family move from Chicago to a serene, upscale community where he has a job as the new chief of police. They soon realize that the community is unlike any other, consisting of mysterious neighbors who are not what they appear to be
Review: This Twin Peaks/X-Files type show never goes into soap opera territory and instead stays within the beloved realm of atypical horror-fantasy-mystery genre. Various occupants of this town roam including vamps, werewolves and seductive demons all waiting to pray on anyone who’s not like them. I didn’t see the initial broadcast as it just wasn’t on at a time when I was typically watching but during the final run of Chiller cable TV (before it became a now-defunct network) I discovered this show again and went for it while not expecting anything but was rather surprised at its moody mysteries, solid acting and various subplots. While occasionally shocking, it wasn’t hokey really and while played up as having sexy people in the promos, it was hardly a sleazy show. Instead, it was more of a series of interconnected growing intrigue and while it was left on a cliffhanger, it was hardly anything but not worthwhile. It was all rather well-performed and shot but hardly workman-like or reliant on being derivative of other genre favorites. If you see it on a streaming platform, other cable network or at a used DVD store, give it a go and prepared to be shocked in a good way.
