Fido and Warm Bodies cross-pollinated with Disney's High School Musical series has created this incredibly obvious agenda piece, and with a constant barrage of song and dance numbers and squeaky clean horror tropes (the zombies eat cauliflower mixed with brains), Z-O-M-B-I-E-S emerges as one of the most bizarre movies I've seen in awhile.
Getting Grace may not sound like a fun movie but despite the serious subject matter there are moments of tenderness and heart interspersed with humour to make sure it is never an overly depressing watch. Recommended.
Forbidden Power goes so far above and beyond using what it has that it manages to tell a story in a colorful and gripping way. Paul Kyriazi's return to film is an exciting one, and it is hoped that the lead actors return for many new projects to come, as well.
Isle of Dogs is one of Wes Anderson's finest hours with his quirky sense of humour and beautiful animation, it's a must-see.
Unsane is a unique and tension-filled study of mental illness and makes you look at those we rely on to protect us a little more cautiously. Recommended.
Rawhead Rex is silly but diverting horror fun with a few decent kills even if it's not all that memorable.
A Quiet Place is packed with tension and jumpy moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat; there are a few issues I had with it personally but I'm really just nit-picking. See it on the big screen so you can truly immerse yourself in the sound.
My Friend Dahmer is a challenging watch but it's also infectious and one of the best coming of age dramas in a long time.
Chokeslam will be an acquired taste and it's not as funny as it could be but the target audience will enjoy it.
The Lower Rooms presents a wealth of metaphorical visuals, focused building of relationships and characters whose resemblance to everyday, real life people manage to hit close to home. Definitely worth your time.
