The Fatal Raid (2019) Well Go USA Blu-ray Review

Verdict
3.5

Summary

A fairly simplistic actioner that clocks in at about 90 minutes, The Fatal Raid relies heavily on the camera ogling its young starlets who get in on the action, and with its leery eye on exposed legs, cleavage, and the styles of its characters’ clothing, the movie reveals itself to be a bit of a male fantasy with its tough girls wielding machine guns in tight shorts and busty tops.

Plot:

20 years after a bloody confrontation between smugglers and an elite police squad, the same squad is forced to revisit the botched event that changed all of their lives, only this time some of their own are on the wrong side.

Review:

A bloody shootout on the streets of Macao – between an elite group of young police enforcers and a bunch of anarchist smugglers – ends up costing the lives of some innocent civilians who happened to be there at the time, and the event badly scarred the psyche’s of almost everyone who survived the event. Flash forward 20 years, and the police enforcers have come up in the ranks and are led by Madam Fong (Jade Leung), whose team now includes one of the survivors (who was a child at the time) of the original event. She leads a mission to stop a bunch of criminals – who have a close connection to the event from all those years ago – from wreaking havoc in Macao, which has since become a popular tourist destination and would potentially have lots of innocent civilians in the fray should things become as violent as the first fatal raid. With a team consisting largely of tough female cops, Fong goes headfirst into yet another violent confrontation on the streets of Macao that has heavy artillery and shell casings spraying in every direction when one of their own is revealed to be the leader of the anarchists.

It’s fun to a degree, and it certainly has plenty of gunplay (the entire movie seems poised to be a commercial for owning big machine guns), along with some close quarter fight scenes. It’s not entirely memorable or distinct, but for a quick action flick, The Fatal Raid delivers the goods. From director Jacky Lee.

Well Go USA recently released a Blu-ray and a DVD for The Fatal Raid, and it comes with an English language track, as well as the trailer.
