Summary
From writer / director Richard Elfman, who made perhaps the greatest cult film of all time Forbidden Zone a long time ago, Aliens Clowns & Geeks only has a smidgen of the same magic that made that film so glorious.
Plot:
An out-of-work actor could potentially save the universe from aliens and killer clowns from space.
Review:
Out-of-work actor Eddy Pine (Bodhi Elfman) takes a dump and out plops an obelisk. This object is a precious artifact meant to stop an alien race and a group of killer clowns from space from destroying Earth. Eddy has no idea how or why he excreted this (rather large) object, but the fact is that the killer clowns are already after him and it’s suddenly given him a sexual magnetism that hot chicks suddenly can’t resist. He gets laid (a lot) from random babes, and he hooks up with a Swedish cutie who works for a mad scientist (played by French Stewart) who might have a theory on what the obelisk is actually meant to do, but by then Eddy is being pursued by a horde of killer clowns and green aliens in full force. With his transvestite brother and his cute girlfriend in tow, Eddy just might somehow save the universe from total annihilation.
From writer / director Richard Elfman, who made perhaps the greatest cult film of all time Forbidden Zone a long time ago, Aliens Clowns & Geeks only has a smidgen of the same magic that made that film so glorious. With some completely inane and wildly goofy moments, this will certainly remind fans of that film in spots and glints, but this one has an overreliance on sex and a gutterball script, which sends it plummeting to the depths too quickly. The biggest asset it has is a bizarre and fun score by Danny Elfman and Ego Plum, and it consistently enlivens the head-slapping buffoonery on screen. It’s also quite conspicuous that this movie very much rips off Killer Klowns From Outer Space. I’m definitely the audience for this movie, and so it’s just a shame that it becomes a numbing flustercluck well before it concludes. It also features Verne Troyer in one of his final roles.
The new Blu-ray edition of Aliens Clowns & Geeks comes in a fully loaded special edition with behind the scenes material, interviews, a music video, and the trailer.
