Verdict
Summary
The movie is junky and dumb, and at only 69 (an unintentional irony) minutes long, the film feels longer with a draggy pace and a poor script. Still, I do believe there’s an audience for this stuff. It’s retro, it’s bad, and it’s got great boobs.
Plot:
A heavy metal babe gets revenge on the world by transforming into a monster who feeds on flesh.
Review:
A deadbeat loafer watching music videos at home with his girlfriend notices that his favorite heavy metal babe Michelle Shock (Carol Carr) is going to be in concert nearby later that evening, and he uses his girlfriend’s car payment money to buy himself a front row seat. During the concert, he locks eyes with his idol, and she invites him backstage where she proceeds to give him a blow job that ends with a climax of climaxes: She castrates him and offers his blood and flesh to Satan! Having just been dumped by her band for being too extreme with her devil worship antics, Shock goes full-on demon and turns into a rubbery monster, lying in wait for her next big event: possession! Enter rocker Jamie Summers (blonde bombshell Melissa Moore who provides the film’s generous amount of nudity) who takes the indie rock movement by storm. When Summers becomes possessed by Shock’s demonic spirit, she carries on Shock’s proverbial torch by bringing pain and suffering to both men and women who come into her clutches!
Ultra grungy, goopy, and grainy, the shot-on-videotape Scream Dream has the seed of a plot growing in the soil of this otherwise barren wasteland of a movie from prolific zero budget filmmaker Donald Farmer. He clearly loves featuring beautiful women and having their clothes ripped off by talons and demonic hands (and in the first scene, a chainsaw) because there’s lots of that on display here, and the mere fact that he got Melissa Moore to shed her clothes throughout the film is a testament to his fortitude. The movie is junky and dumb, and at only 69 (an unintentional irony) minutes long, the film feels longer with a draggy pace and a poor script. Still, I do believe there’s an audience for this stuff. Visual Vengeance once again goes way overboard (and how!) with their stacked Blu-ray release of Scream Dream. With commentaries, interviews, alternate artwork, a slipcover, a concert ticket (my favorite bonus), stickers, and more, this is just overkill. Michelle Shock would love it.
