Summary
Not entirely essential by any means, but still mildly amusing and for the most diehard fans of these types of movies, this one might get a chuckle or two with its infantile and sexist humor.
Plot:
A bunch of new recruits at a police academy vie to be the best so that they can graduate and become inspectors.
Review:
The police academy in Hong Kong busses in a bunch of new hopefuls, and the female squad, led by Madam Wu (Sibelle Hu), really seems to get the dregs with the overzealous and jealous Amy (Sandra Kwan Yue Ng) who can’t seem to catch a break with her squad leader or get along with the other girls on the Banshee (female) squad. Amy seems to be the brunt of every joke and gag, and she pulls constant sandbag duty, while the other girls have their own challenges, such as the buxom Susana (Amy Yip) whose preoccupation with her own boobs gets her in some trouble with her superiors for not outfitting her Kevlar vest properly – she cuts out holes for her ample boobs to rest comfortably (and because she thinks the vest will make her flat chested), which could potentially put her life at risk. Meanwhile, the Tiger (male) squad of new recruit hopefuls has their fair share of misfit morons, and with several functions – like a dance or a fight competition – to intermingle the two squads proves to be pretty challenging as the squads treat each other as if this activities were their own real world battles, not just battles of the sexes. Finally, after endless training and complaining (and hijinks), the squads get their chance to be tested on the battlefield when one of their own is kidnapped by a band of terrorists.
Sillier by a considerable margin than the previous film, The Inspector Wears Skirts 2 is on par with some of the USA’s own goober Police Academy franchise, which had already done six(!) films by the time this sequel was released. It really depends on your interest in Hong Kong comedies as to whether or not you’ll enjoy this entry, but the action and fights really don’t get warmed up until the final few minutes during the climax. Jackie Chan produced it, and his stunt team coordinated the combat scenes. Not entirely essential by any means, but still mildly amusing and for the most diehard fans of these types of movies, this one might get a chuckle or two with its infantile and sexist humor. From director Wellson Chin.
88 Films has given The Inspector Wears Skirts 2 a very nice high definition treatment with their usual royal display of quality and bonus features. Stay tuned for their upcoming releases of parts 3 and 4 in the series, both of which I have never seen, so I’m looking forward to those.
