Scream of the Blind Dead (2021) DVD Review

Summary

A 40-minute feature short film done as an homage to both Jess Franco films and The Blind Dead series by Amando de Ossorio – particularly the first film Tombs of the Blind Dead – Chris Alexander’s Scream of the Blind Dead is a bit of an aimless lark, shot without dialogue, using some garish lighting, and homoerotic sexuality to present a “stylish” but very limp exploitation effort that only the most diehard fans of the films it tries emulating will enjoy.

Plot:

A hooded killer pursues a woman through an abandoned countryside.

Review:

A young woman (played by Stephanie Delorme) steps off a train in the middle of a countryside, wanders around for awhile, and encounters an empty church where she dozes off and plays the organ (both the church’s and her own, if you get my drift), and then at some point a hooded killer with a sword begins to pursue her very, very slowly through the countryside where a set of ruins provides the backdrop where the woman and the killer have a showdown of sorts.

Full Moon released this short on a standalone DVD, which is surprising as its over just as it feels like it’s about to get started, and yet they pack it with bonus features, including Alexander’s commentary, and some featurettes. I’m a fan of the Blind Dead movies, and even saw the recent horrendous post-apocalyptic entry Curse of the Blind Dead, but this unofficial entry is a pointless and oddly annoying stab at homage, despite Alexander’s effort to give it all a gender-bending twist.

The DVD is affordably priced to own.
