Black Tight Killers (1966) Radiance Blu-ray Review

Verdict
3.5

Summary

A groovy and stylish spy spoof with just enough shenanigans to keep it spry and fun, Black Tight Killers seems like it jumped right out of a comic strip.

Plot:

A war photographer becomes the target of a top-secret gang of women when he finds out about a stash of lost gold.

Review:

War photographer and eternal bachelor Hondo (Akira Kobayashi) is discharged after being wounded, and on the plane home to Tokyo he catches the eye of a stewardess whom he takes out on a date. While on their date, a mysterious man follows them, and when Hondo ends up in a dark alley while trying to get some answers, he witnesses a gang of three tough chicks murder the man who was following him. When the girls realize Hondo is a witness, they try to kill him too, and this turns into an odyssey for him as he soon finds himself dodging lady assassins, spies, and bedmates who want to kill him. Hondo tries investigating all this crazy carnage and his quest turns into a fight for survival as he trots around a swinging Tokyo with gorgeous bombshells – some of whom become collateral damage – as he gets wind of some lost WWII gold that everyone seems to think he knows about.

A groovy and stylish spy spoof with just enough shenanigans to keep it spry and fun, Black Tight Killers seems like it jumped right out of a comic strip. With a really jazzy soundtrack and colorful sets, the movie feels a few rungs below some of the bigger and broader ’60s 007 movies, but it’s more or less for the same audience with sexy babes, teases of nudity, nice locations, and a hero who can’t be beat. It’s silly, though, with the three lady ninjas who have nutty weapons like razor sharp vinyl records and measuring tape that become swords, but it’s all in good fun. From director Yasuhara Hasebe.
