Scream 7 (2026) Review

Verdict
3

Summary

Scream 7 is a welcome return for Neve Campbell as the lead as I consider this her franchise. There are a few decent kills but the killer’s identity as painfully obvious early on.

Plot: When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target.

Review: I can’t believe we are on the 7th entry in the Scream franchise; I don’t remember any of the sequels after 3, so I need to give them a rewatch.

I remember Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) being more of a supporting character in the more recent movies and she wasn’t even in the last one. As far as I’m concerned this is her franchise so when she isn’t the lead, I’m less interested.

Scream 7 continues the meta scares with a few pop culture references, although I thought the script was a bit lacking here. I also worked out who the killer was immediately, so there weren’t many surprises.

This is still well paced and one kill in a theatre stands out as does the opening scene; aside from that this is rather tame, especially after watching gorefests like Terrifier 3.

One highlight I bet no one else has mentioned is the amazing reference to Broken Arrow again which was in the second movie any time Dewey was on screen using Hanz Zimmer’s amazing score.

Speaking of which the score is awesome using the regular cues we’ve become so familiar with in the series. If this is the final entry in the Scream franchise, I’d be happy with that as it feels wrapped up nicely and it would just feel dragged out otherwise. I’m surprised it’s even gone on this long as it ended fine with me at part 3, but since when do horror franchises ever end?

Overall, Scream 7 feels like the original 3 movies and maybe my favourite entry since the third. I need to rewatch the others as I don’t remember much about them, but this is still a consistently fun franchise.
