Will We Ever See a Silmarillion Movie?

As much as I enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy it felt like overkill and could easily have been two movies; the story just wasn’t all that engaging and it lacked the emotional resonance of The Lord of the Rings movies.

There were a lot of scenes (and even a new character) that were completely made up and some of felt tacked on dragging out a story that didn’t need it.

The trilogy was a financial success and yet nobody talks about it they way they did about The Lord of the Rings when those movies came out.

Director Peter Jackson came on board at the last minute when original director Guillermo Del Toro abandoned the Hobbit project and Jackson himself admitted he didn’t know what he was doing and the whole project was rushed.

Despite the problems with The Hobbit movies the world of Middle Earth is far too vast and interesting to leave alone and I would personally love to see an adaptation of The Silmarillion or The Children of Hurin.

The fan trailer below is nicely put together and gives us an idea of what we could expect from several Silmarillion movies. I would almost prefer though if it got a Game of Thrones style treatment from HBO and had episodes which could tell some of the stories with a bigger over arching story (The rise of Morgoth).

It will likely never happen as I believe the rights still belong to the Tolkien estate  which is a shame as there is potential for an amazing series/set of movies.

I started The Action Elite a few years ago; it's grown from strength to strength but now seems like the right time to expand. I've always loved different movie genres like horror, sci-fi and dramas so you'll see a wide range of different movies covered here.
